Obituary for Keila Dea Brown Gutierrez

January 24, 1975 - February 3, 2018
Newark, Delaware | Age 43

Loving Daughter, Sister and Teacher

Keila Dea Brown Gutierrez Marshall, aged 43, died suddenly and unexpectedly in her sleep on February 3, 2018 from medical complications. She was born on January 24, 1975 to Gerardo and Ruth Gutierrez in Lima, Peru. Keila grew up as the child of Christian missionaries and lived in Huanta, Peru, Santiago, Chile, St. Louis, MO, Reston, VA and eventually settled in Wilmington, DE. No matter where she lived, Keila's heart was always in Peru and she continued to return there again and again to minister to the Peruvian people and love them well. She was educated at Columbia International University and received a Bachelors in Bible in 1997.

Keila found her passion in teaching university students English as a Second Language at the University of Delaware. She was deeply connected to her students and continually shared her faith in Jesus Christ with them and brought many of them to church with her. Keila's easy going personality and love for life made her students comfortable with her and allowed her to get to know them well while they were away from their home countries. She even lived in the INNternational Dorm Housing with them and was like a mom or sister to many students.

Keila is survived by her father, Gerardo Gutierrez; brother Osman; sister Margoth; sister Lois; brother Nathaniel; brother Ben; brother Caleb and various extended family members including her grandfather Harry Marshall. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Gutierrez and grandmothers Florence Marshall and Modesta Santillana.

To her family, Keila will be remembered as a woman of great faith in Christ. She was an incredible aunt to her 11 nieces and nephews, all of whom are deeply grieving her death, and she was a very loved daughter and sister. To those of us left behind, Keila's life was cut tragically short, but we do not grieve as those without hope, and we are confident that God's timing in her life and death were perfect. We are joyful in the truth that she is now whole and complete in Heaven, rejoicing with her Savior and reunited with her dear mother Ruthie.

A memorial service for Keila will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Ogletown Baptist Church, 316 Red Mill Road, Newark, DE 19713.
